Verne E. Vorhies

Verne E. Vorhies, 99, of Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 1993, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home with Keevin Koch officiating. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery. Visitation is open at Raymond Funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Manor Activity Fund.

Vornies was born March 13, 1894, in Henry County northeast of Lockridge near Four Corners, the son of Edgar E. and Cordella Simmons Vorhies. He grew up in the Four Corners community and farmed until the early 60s. He also had worked at Falco. He married Exie Manning on Dec. 22, 1920, in Mount Pleasant. She died Feb. 6, 1967. Two grandchildren and 12 brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are three sons, Vern Jr. of Birmingham, Merle and Albert "Abe", both of Fairfield; two daughters, Winnetta Harwood of Glasgow, Wilma Johnson of Santa Maria, Calif.; 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granchildren and a brother, Merlin of Mount Pleasant.
