ELEANOR REAVELY

Eleanor Reavely, 69, of Des Moines, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at her winter home in Tucson, Ariz.

Born March 6, 1917, at Salem, she was the daughter of Harry and Miriam Foss Stevens.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant, the National Association of Social workers, Pi Beta Phi Sorority and the University Athletic Club of Iowa City. In the 1930s she was one of the top women amateur golfers and played in state tournaments. She received her bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, and her master's degree in social work from the University of Iowa. She worked with the welfare departments of Lee and Henry County. In 1982, she retired from the Mental Health Institute of Mount Pleasant as a psychiatric social worker.

Surviving are a son, Tom S. Reavely, West Des Moines; and a sister, Ethel Lamn West, San Antonio, Texas.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Services for Mrs. Reavely will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery, Salem.

A memorial has been established for the scholarship fund for golfing athletes at Iowa Wesleyan College.
