MRS. ISABELLA GILCHRIST

Older residents will remember the James R. Gilchrist family, who came to Mt. Pleasant early in the sixties.

Mrs. Isabella Gray Gilchrist was born in Rochester, N.Y., June 7, 1842 [NOTE: "1841" is engraved on headstone]. She was married to James R. Gilchrist in Nov. 1861. Mr. Gilchrist died in 1885.

Mrs. Isabella Gray Gilchrist passed away on February 3, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary B. John, Englewood, Colorado. Funeral services were held at the R.K. Crane funeral parlors in Mt. Pleasant on Friday, Feb. 6th, at ten a.m. in charge of Rev. F.E. Weston. Her two daughters, Mrs. Mary B. John, of Englewood, Colorado, and Mrs. Maude Benjamin, of Council Bluffs accompanied the remains here and saw their dear mother laid tenderly to rest beside their father in the family lot at Forest Home cemetery.

Besides the two daughters mentioned are three sons left to mourn the loss of a noble mother, Fred of Los Angeles, George of Seattle, and Frank of Omaha.

Mrs. Gilchrist was a woman of pleasing personality and was ever devoted to good works. The members of her Sunday school class of the Baptist church are among the devoted friends, who with her own children, "rise up to call her blessed." "Verily her works do follow her".
