Salem Weekly News - August 6, 1914

Sarah Ann Stipe was born in Virginia on October 9, 1826 and departed this life at the home of her adopted son, north of Salem, on June 27, 1914 at 7 p.m. aged 87 years, 6 months, and 18 days. She was the daughter of Henry and Evelyn Oleggett and was united in marriage to Asekiah Stripe July 2, 1856. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Ohio while quite young and after coming to Iowa united with the church at Wesley chapel, but on moving to Salem, her membership was transferred to the Salem M.E. Church of which she was a faithful member until her death.

She leaves to mourn her departure one adopted son, John Stipe, and two grandsons, also several nieces and nephews.

She was greatly beloved by all who knew her and the Scripture is true of her when it says, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord for they rest from their labors and their works do follow after”.

The funeral services were held in the Salem M.E. church conducted by the pastor, J. W. Stine.
