Isaac W. Oswalt

Isaac William Oswalt, son of Ellis and Lucy Oswalt, was born April 24, 1861 and departed this life January 19, 1934 at his late home three miles west of Trenton, aged 72 years, 8 months and 27 days.

He was married to Martha Jane McKenzie October 3, 1880 near Wayland, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Estella Messer of Fairfield, Iowa and Howard, who passed away at the age of three years. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Estella Messer, also three granddaughters and five great grandchildren. One great grandson, Billy Lee Morrow preceded him in death. Two brothers and one sister mourn his departure, John Oswalt of Washington, Iowa; James Oswalt of Wayland, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary Johnson of Washington, Iowa. Also a host of friends and relatives.

For many years he was a faithful member of the Green Mound church. His life was a living witness of the Christ he loved and served. This world is better for the life of this Christian man. We can say of him as the Master said of Mary, “He hath done what he could.”

Funeral services were held in the Green Mound church Sunday afternoon, January 21, 1934, conducted by Rev. A. L. Shuey, pastor of the Wayland Methodist church. Interment in the Green Mound cemetery.
