Arthur Williams is Dead

Word was received here Monday that Arthur Williams died at his home in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Williams has been a hopeless invalid from paralysis for several years. He formerly resided near Finley and was quite well known here. Arthur was of a cheerful disposition and all who knew him were his friends. The immediate cause of his death has not been learned.

OBITUARY:

After many years of suffering, borne with unspeakable patience and fortitude, Mr. Arthur Walton Williams died at his home near Salem, Iowa, on Monday morning, February 9, 1920 at 4 o’clock. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia in conjunction with the dreaded Spanish influenza. His condition was not known to be serious until the evening before his death. He was a son of Robert Newton and Mahala Allender Williams and was born in Seward County, Nebraska March 4, 1879. November 21, 1907 he and Miss Luelle Wilhelm were united in marriage. Four children, all girls, were born to them. Maud passed away in infancy. Vera, Margaret, and Gladys, with their mother, remain to mourn. He was to them ever a loving and considerate husband and father. His aged parents who reside in Mt. Pleasant also survive as do the following brothers and sisters: James, Dallas, Benjamin, Louie, Wesley, Irvin, Nellie, Effie, and Lulu. They have the sympathy of many in their bereavement.

Funeral services were conducted by Frank E. Weston, pastor of the First Baptist church, Mt. Pleasant, were held at the Finley Cemetery northeast of Trenton on Tuesday afternoon. Many old friends and neighbors gathered there to show their respect and sorrow. Mary Keith, Mary Everts, Grace Payne, Lincoln Noble, Frank Goldsmith, and Clark Everets sang the hymns. The pallbearers were: Howard Hulme, Frank Goldsmith, Maurice Green, Sam Goldsmith, Homer Payne, and Lincoln Noble.

Arthur Williams was a fine man who had and held the respect of many. Most all of his life was spent in Henry County. His affliction, a partial paralysis of the lower limbs, made his later life one of suffering. He had, however, the faithful ministry of a loving wife and of many relatives. His family will greatly miss him.
