Anna Roth, 74, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Susie Schlarbaum in South Wayland, Thursday evening after an illness of several years with cancer. However, it was only during the last several weeks of her life that she was bedfast.

A brief funeral service was held at the home at one o’clock Saturday afternoon and the main service was held at the Greenmound church by Rev. S. Gingerich assisted by Elmer Basinger. An octet of the Sugar Creek Church sang. Burial was made in the Greenmound Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Anna Roth, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Christner) Roth was born in Jefferson Township, Henry County, Iowa, November 5, 1859. She was the oldest of a family of 11 children. She was converted at the age of 18 and united with the Amish Mennonite church and was a faithful member of the Sugar Creek congregation at Wayland, Iowa. All her life, always looking with fond anticipation to the communion services.

Anna was never married, having no family of her own, her affections went out very strongly to her brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces.

She had a good memory and delighted to speak of things which happened long ago. When she was a child two of her little brothers died, Benjamin 7 months old and Christian at the age of 5 months. She remember Christian and recently referred to him in a conversation. Her father, mother and brother, Peter, also preceded her in death.

For the last 20 years she has made her home with her sisters, Mrs. Susie Scharlbaum in Wayland, Iowa, where she died April 5, 1934, at the age of 74 years and 5 months.

She leaves four sisters, Mrs. Susie Scharlbaum, Wayland; Mrs. Peter Ensminger, Mrs. Barbara Graber, and Mrs. Fred Buck, Rome, Iowa; three brothers, Jacob of Wayland; Joseph and Daniel of Rome, Iowa, 22 nephews and nieces, 14 great-nephews and nieces, and a large number of friends and other relatives to mourn their loss.
