Sam Goldsmith succumbs to heart disease: Was found lying on the floor in his home in an unconscious state; died before physician arrived

It was hard to believe when the news spread Friday evening that Sam Goldsmith had died at his home southeast of Wayland. Mr. Goldsmith had been ailing but it was not thought that his condition was of such a grave nature. He and his son, Donald, had intended to come to Wayland Friday afternoon but the trip was postponed because he was not feeling so well that afternoon. At choring time Donald told him to just stay in the house but he insisted he was well enough to help him and after Donald had been at work a while, he did not see his father anyplace so went to the house and found him lying on the floor unconscious. Neither of the Wayland physicians was at home when called so one was summoned from Mt. Pleasant but Mr. Goldsmith was dead before the doctor arrived. It is said that Mr. Goldsmith was overcome with a heart attack.

Sam Goldsmith had a wide circle of friends who regret his death, at so early an age, 66 years. He was of a jovial disposition and always had an antidote to relate when explaining some point in ordinary conversation. He held several positions of trust in his township during his life t me and will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors and especially Elizabeth and Don.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Finley church. Rev.Prtichard and Rev. Bassinger officiated. A male quartet composed ot Dr.E. G. Rittler, Homer Davis, Noah and Aaron Liechty, with Mrs. Leola Magdegfrau as accompanist, furnished the special music. The pallbearers were nephews: Max and Ralph Kauffman; Max and Glenn Miller; Clarence Goldsmith; and Bernard Bates.
