MRS. S. P. GOLDSMITH DIES SATURDAY AT FOUR O’CLOCK A.M.
Funeral Services Are Held at Finley Church Monday Afternoon a 2 O’clock

Mrs. Anna Kauffman Goldsmith died at her home southeast of Wayland Saturday morning at 4 o’clock. She had been dangerously ill for a number of weeks but it was not widely known that her condition was so serious.

Her service and devotion to her family, neighbors, and friends will be forever treasured in the memory of those who knew her. The memory of her worthy life will be a priceless heritage to her husband and children.

The funeral was conducted on Monday afternoon. A private service was held at the home at 1:30 O’clock. A mixed quartette consisting of Mrs. Elmer Basinger, Mrs. Mable Wittrig, Dr. E. G. Rittler, and J. W. Wittrig, accompanied by Mrs. Leola Magdefrau, sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”.

The main services were held at the Finley Church. At the request of the family, the ministers, Rev. Elmer Basinger and Rev. J. J. Pritchard, based their funeral sermon upon the twenty-third Psalm, a favorite scriptural passage of Mrs. Goldsmith. The quartette at the church sang “We Are Going Down the Valley One by One”, “In the Sweet By and By”, and “Does Jesus Care.” Burial took place in the Finley cemetery. Max Miller, Bernard Bates, Clarence Goldsmith, Max Kauffman, Ralph Kauffman, and Harry Kauffman, nephews, acted as pallbearers.

OBITUARY:

Mrs. Anna E. Goldsmith, daughter of Christian and Elizabeth Kauffman was born on February 8, 1879 in Washington County, Iowa. After a lingering illness of several months she departed this life on October 31, 1931 at the age of 52 years, 8 months, and 25 days. She was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church, but also took an interest in keeping up the work at the church at Finley.

On February 23, 1902, she was united in marriage with Jacob Hauenstein, who preceded her in death about a year later. She was again united in marriage with Samuel Goldsmith on January 27, 1909. This union was blessed with two children, a daughter, Elizabeth, and a son, Don.

She leaves to mourn, her deeply bereft husband, her daughter, Elizabeth, and her son, Don, her aged mother, three sisters, Mrs. William Allen, Mrs. Katie Johnson, and Mrs. James Bates; five brothers, William, John, Edward, Christian, and Homer; besides many other relatives and friends.

Let the bereaved console themselves with the thought expressed in a stanza written by Dr. Payton Hoge on “Lost Friends”.

I lost a friend the other day---
His heart was pure and strong and true;
Our days were sweet, but all too few;
He passed from earth the other day
But while I see him here no more
I know that on a happier shore,
No here, but in eternity,
God will give back my friend to me.
