"DEATH OF REV. JONATHAN LEE - - In Ottumwa - - Well Known Baptist Minister. Buried Lambert Cemetery. Pall bearers six of Rev. Mr. Lee's grandsons, Walter, Robert, Bert, Roy, Adrian and Howard Lee.

Rev. Jonathan Lee was the son of Martin and Lydia Ann Lee and was born at Vernon, Ind., on November 9, 1839. He came to Iowa when nine months old. This state has been his home ever since. The family located on a claim near Salem in Henry County a few miles south of Mt. Pleasant. . . . .The young man preached his first sermon in 1856 at the Glasgow church. He was 17 years and two weeks old at the time. . . . .

On May 19, 1859 he was married to Miss Mary Harter. To them three children were born: Mrs. Amanda Wood of Woolum, Ark.; Curtis E. Lee of Salem, and Edwin H. Lee of Hillsboro. Mrs. Mary Harter Lee died January 13, 1869. Rev. Mr. Lee was married on November 3, 1869 to Miss Abie Boyd, who survives. To this union five children were born. But two are now living. They are O. B. Lee of Ottumwa and R. J. Lee of Los Angeles, Cal. Three children, Lydia L., Milo D., and Roe F. preceded the father in death. Twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren survive."
