T.J. YOUNT, 87, VETERAN OF THE CIVIL WAR, DIES
Thomas J. Yount, 87-year-old Civil war veteran and resident of this city for the last four years, passed away early yesterday morning at the home of his son, Thomas R. Yount, 930 North Sixth street.

He was born in Indiana, December 13, 1839. At the outbreak of the Civil war he enlisted in the army in Company K, 16th Indiana infantry, and was later transferred as a sergeant to Company B, 25th Iowa infantry.

Mr. Yount served in the army during the entire war and was twice wounded in action. He was first wounded in the hip at Arkansas Post, January 11, 1863, and was also wounded in the head at the battle of Mt. Ezra church near Atlanta, Ga., May 28, 1864. The first wound caused him to be paralyzed the remainder of his life.

He was a graduate of Rush Medical college, with an M. D. degree and spent some time as a teacher in California.

He is survived by one son, T. R. Yount, of Burlington. The body was taken to Prugh's chapel pending the completion of funeral arrangements.

THOMAS J. YOUNT, CIVIL WAR VETERAN, DIED IN BURLINGTON
Thomas Jefferson Yount, aged 87, passed away at the home of his son, Thomas Yount, in Burlington, Tuesday morning at 2:30. At an early age he moved to Henry county, Iowa, from Indiana and settled on a farm near Mt. Pleasant. When the Civil war broke out he enlisted in Co. K of the 16th Indiana Infantry and was later transferred to the Iowa Infantry where he served during the remainder of the war.

He was one of Henry county's highly respected residents and was well known in the community in which he resided. Funeral services will be held at Prugh chapel in Burlington Thursday afternoon at one o'clock and further services will be held at the First Baptist church of this city at three o'clock. Interment will be made at Oak Grove cemetery north of Mt. Pleasant.

T. J. YOUNT LAID TO REST IN OAK GROVE THURSDAY
Funeral services for the late Thos. Jefferson Yount, a veteran of the Civil war, were held in the First Baptist church on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. They were short and simple consisting of scripture reading, sermon and prayer by Frank E. Weston, pastor of the church. Many beautiful flowers covered the casket. Pastor Weston spoke from Job 5:26. After the services the remains were taken to Oak Grove, northwest of town, for interment among his old friends and relatives.

Deceased was a son of Charles G. and Mary A. [McCarty] Yount, and was born near La Fayette, Ind., Dec. 13, 1839. He died at the home of his son, Thomas Raymond Yount, 930 N. Sixth street, Burlington, Iowa, at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday, December 6, 1927. He was one of a family of six children all of whom are deceased. He and two of his brothers, Isaac N. Yount and John P. Yount, served through the Civil war. John P. was killed in battle. Isaac N. never fully recovered from the strain of the four awful years of war. The subject of this sketch was twice wounded, once at Arkansas Post, Ark., Jan. 11, 1863, and afterwards at Mt. Ezra church, near Atlanta, Ga., July 28, 1864. One leg was paralized as a result of his wounds. The women of McFarland Post, G. A. R., paid their usual honors to the soldier dead at the church service. The other members of Mr. Yount's father's family were Benjamin F. Yount, William H. Yount and Mrs. Rebecca Yount Traxler. The family removed to this section of Iowa in the late forties. Thomas J. enlisted in Co. K. 16th Ind. Inf., and later in Co. B. 25th Iowa Inf. He was faithful unto death in his devotion to his country. April 27, 1875, he and Margaret Rozelle Sater, who survives him, were united in marriage. One son, Thomas Raymond Yount, one grandson, Harold Yount, and many other friends and relatives survive.
