George Fye, 90, Taken By Death

George Fye, 90, passed away at 4:45 o’clock Friday afternoon at his home, 209 South Locust street in Mt. Pleasant. He had been in failing health for some time.

George Fye, son of Elizabeth (Schanholz) and John Fye, was born November 3, 1855, at Wheeling, West Virginia. On January 24, 1884 at Burlington, Ia., he married Amelia Glitsch who preceded him in death on August 5, 1943. The couple lived for many years on a farm South of Mt. Union but retired eleven years ago to Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Fye was of the Lutheran faith. Surviving are eleven children: Mrs. Katherine Wallman of Yarmouth, Mrs. Maude Darbyshire and Miss Laura Fye of New London, Alice Pogemiller of Morning Sun, Mrs. Nellie Kellogg of Winfield, Clarence Herbert and Theodore Fye all of Mt. Union, Edgar Fye of Bloomfield, Mrs. Elsie Moul of Wayland, and Mrs. Frances Caldwell of Mt. Pleasant. There are also twenty-two grandchildren and fourteen great-grand-children. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock from the Elliott chapel in New London. Dr. George C. Hunt of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist church will officiate. Mrs. Fred Ekstrand and George Elliott, accompanied by Mrs. Frank Tyner will sing, “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “No Night There”. Dale Kellogg, Harold and Clinton Wallman, Cleo and Curtis Darbyshire, Winston Metzgar, Paul Linder and Everett Hendrickson, will serve as pallbearers and interment will be in Trinity cemetery near his old home.
