C.E. CARNAHAN TAKEN BY DEATH

Cassius E. Carnahan, 87, passed away at the Memorial hospital Thursday evening at 6:30 after several years of failing health. He had been fairly active until within the last several weeks preceding his death.

Mr. Carnahan was a successful farmer in the Richwoods neighborhood, having followed this occupation for sixty years. As a young man he taught school; was active in the church and Sunday school at the former Hickory Grove Congregational church. He attended rural schools and Howes Academy.

For more than twenty years of his life Mr. Carnahan devoted much of his time organizing cooperative livestock shipping associations. After his retirement he travelled to many places of interest in the United States and Canada and frequently wrote accounts of his travels for publication in the News and Free Press.

He leaves his wife Ada Campbell Carnahan and three children, Hugh W. Carnahan of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Bloomquist, Rockford, Ill., and Mark of Joliet, Ill., one sister, Mrs. Cora Herrick, Orange, N.J., a brother, Orlo of Douds, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Cookes-Lunning Home on Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Hickory Grove.

The family asks that there be no flowers. Friends may call at the funeral home.
