William Russell Davison, 87, of Wayland, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington.

Born March 27, 1918, in Washington County, he was the son of William Roy and Eva Wagner Davison. On June 1, 1941, he married Helen Wells in Brighton.

Mr. Davison farmed all of his life north of Coppock. The farm was recognized as a Century Family farm in 1976.

He was a 1936 graduate of Wayland High School, where he was valedictorian. He served on the Wayland School Board and later the WACO School Board. He served as a township trustee, was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, where he served on several committees and as president of the trustees. He also was a member of the Wayland Antique Tractor Club, served on the board of directors of the Wayland Museum and helped restore the Conger House to the Conger Museum.

He enjoyed playing in German bands and played in the Brighton town band for nine years. He enjoyed welding, mechanics and working on tractors. He also enjoyed working with wood and photos. He made a lot of quilt racks, clocks and coffee tables.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Rollin Davison of Wayland and the Timon Davison of Iowa City; eight grandchildren; eight great–grandchildren; one brother, Everett Davison of Wayland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones–Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Davison will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Washington, with the Revs. Dennis Fox and Julie Poulsen officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church and Hospice of Washington County.
