Harold Russel Spearman

Harold Russel, son of F. C. and Gertrude Spearman was born at New London, Iowa, November 14, 1905. He was the second child, having a brother older, Devere W. , and a sister younger, Frances Maud, to whom he gave very affectionate attention.

Harold was ambitious and anxious to do the work of a man on the farm, and was fast developing into the strength that would satisfy the hope of his parents whose ill health made it impossible for them to operate the farm without his aid. He was a boy of very intense friendships which makes the sorrow more intense, to those with whom he was intimate. He was sick about a week and a half and during that time suffered very intensely. All was done that could be done by doctors, nurse, and friends, but to no avail for death claimed him Thursday P.M., August 7, 1919 at the age of 13 years, 8 months, and 24 days. Besides those mentioned he leaves to mourn his untimely death Major C. F. Spearman, a grandfather, a grandmother, Mrs. Augusta Wyman of Brimfield, Illinois, two uncles, Grand and Ed Wyman of Brimfield, Illinois, and five aunts, Mrs. G. H. Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Mrs. Maud Gardin of Pratt, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Briggs of Elmwood, Illinois, Mrs. Ida Plammer of Brimfield, Illinois, and Mrs. Nellie Mitchell of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and a large number of other relatives and friends.

A beautiful poem was contributed by his teacher, Mrs. Clyde Lines, and which will appear in a later issue of this paper.

The funeral service conducted by the Rev. Jas. A. Wilson was held at the home Saturday afternoon. There was a large company of relatives and friends present. Interment was made in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
