Accident Claims Life of Wayland Youth

Wayland, Iowa – A one-car accident south of Washington, Iowa on Saturday afternoon, March 27, claimed the life of Thomas Edward Richenberger, 17, and injured four other Wayland youths.

Funeral services for young Richenberger, a senior at Wayland High School, were held March 20 [sic] at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Rev. E. S. Mullett officiating.

The car driven by Ronald Jay Boshart, 17, went out of control on a curve, landing in a field and breaking off a utility pole. The driver and two other passengers were released after several days in the hospital, but 13-year-old Rodney Boshart, brother of Ronald, is in Mercy Hospital at Iowa City with a compound leg fracture and head lacerations.

Surviving the Richenberger youth are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Richenberger, two sisters, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Richenberger of Wayland and Mrs. Agnes Christner of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
