OBITUARY:

Dean Kauffman, 71, Wayland died Tuesday, December 7, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. The funeral service was held at 11 A.M. Friday,December 10, at the Wayland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Kelin officiating. Burial was in North Hill Cemetery. Visitation was from noon to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home, Wayland. There was no family visitation . Memorials have been established to the Wayland United Methodist Church or the North Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Kauffman was born on January 26, 1928, northwest of Wayland to Ralph and Mabel Hyde Kauffman. On June 11, 1950, he married Audrey Roth in Wayland. He attended the Wayland United Methodist Church, for many years owned and operated Dean's Super Valu Store, Wayland, and was an avid gardener.

He is survived by his wife of Wayland, one daughter, Teresa Roth, Urbandale; one grandson, one brother, Donald Kauffman, Washington; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ledru, and one sister, Dorothy.

Mrs. Dwain (Virginia) Tschantz was organist and Mrs. Kenneth (Verlee) Miller was pianist. Casket bearers were Tom Kauffman, Jeff Kauffman, Scott Kauffman, Mark Kauffman, Dan Sheets, and Meredith Miller. Interment was in the North Hill Cemetery. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland was in charge of arrangements.
