The “Witch of Merrimac” is dead at the age of ninety-nine years; she was a “Woman Doctor” and was called “Dutch Granny”. She had the “Gift” of “Second Sight” and could tell people where to find lost articles and animals. To-day her gift would be called Extra-Sensory Perception. Had she lived in the days of Cotton Mather, and in the same vicinity, her days might not have been so long in the land. Her home was south of Merrimac Mills. One of her husband’s names was Fredrick.

[August 10, 1879, “The Fairfield Ledger” or “The Fairfield Tribune”, transcription taken from Chronicles of Merrimac, compiled by Frances Crane Salzman, (b. 1900-d.2000)]
