Alice Martha (Girton) Landon, 85, passed away July 16, 2017, at the Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley

A funeral service was held, July 20, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Logan. The clergy was Pastor Patti Ford. Musicians were Vicki Koenig and David Dickinson. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Honorary pallbearers were Amanda Porter, Holly Landon, Tammy Hinkel, Mason Landon, Haddie Hinkel and Harrison Hinkel. Pallbearers were Jameson Landon, Chad Porter, Kurtis Hinkel, Ben Sexton, Randy Plath and Shannon Bryan. The final resting place is at the Calhoun Cemetery in rural Logan.

Alice was born September 17, 1931, to Dean and Martha (Freymuller) Girton near Magnolia. She attended Magnolia School and graduated from Magnolia High School in 1949. She went onto the Iowa State Teachers’ College in Cedar Falls to receive her teaching degree. She taught in country schools near Honey Creek and Pisgah. Alice married Richard Landon on Dec. 28, 1950, at the Magnolia Methodist Church. The couple farmed and raised livestock for 50 years. In 1985 Alice was employed at G & L Variety and Hardware store in Logan for a number of years.

Alice was an active member in many capacities at the Magnolia and Logan Methodist churches and was part of the United Methodist Women. Alice loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and traveling with her sisters. She always enjoyed the great outdoors; especially working in her garden and flower beds.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Landon; parents-in-law, Gerald and Gladys Landon; four sisters, Betty (Joe) Plath, Nadene (Bob) Bryan, Audrey Girton, Mary Margaret Maguire; and two brothers, Darrel and Richard (Annie) Girton. She is survived by her four children, Carol Landon of Missouri Valley, Larry (Cheryl) Landon of Logan, Steve (Deb) Landon of Missouri Valley and Kathy Landon of Queens Creek, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Amanda (Chad) Porter, Holly Landon (Ben Sexton), Jameson Landon (Hannah Petersen), Tammy (Kurtis) Hinkel; three great-grandchildren, Mason Landon, Haddie and Harrison Hinkel; sister, Ardith Crow of Glendale, Ariz; sister-in-law, Pat Girton of Ames, and brother-in-law, Jerry Maguire of Logan; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
