James John Thiele was born March 29, 1940, to John and Mary (Geiser) Thiele near Nickerson, Nebraska. Jim was raised near Hooper attending school and graduating from St. Patrick's High School in Fremont, Nebraska. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. After his honorable discharge he attended Omaha University part time while working at a variety of jobs. Jim married Miriam Snowbarger on April 28, 1962, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper. Jim graduated from Omaha University in 1968 with a degree in business. Jim worked at Mutual of Omaha from 1966 until his retirement in 2002. Miriam died on June 8, 2011.

Jim lived in Omaha most of his adult life. In 2000, Jim and Miriam moved near Woodbine. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine. Jim enjoyed reading, gardening, and landscaping to create habitat for wildlife. He also enjoyed wildlife, birds, and working with horses.

Jim died on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, eight months and five days.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Miriam; brother-in-law, Jerry Mahlberg; and beloved dog, Caesar. He is survived by his son, Robert Thiele and his wife Kathy of Logan, Iowa; daughter, Debora and her husband Mark Eberling of Springville, Iowa; six grandchildren, Skye and her husband Chris, Devon, John and his wife Sammi, Kaitlin, Nicole and Megan; four great grandchildren, Matthew, Madyson, Ellie and Payton; two sisters, Mary Mahlberg of Fremont, Nebraska and Joanne and her husband Marv Wilde of Hopewell, Virginia; and many other relatives and friends.
