Dodie Hosmer, 87, of The Shores at Pleasant Hill died on Friday, October 26th, 2012 at Bright Kavanagh House, 3300 Easton Blvd., from complications of pneumonia. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 2nd at Grace Community Church, 877 NE 64th St. with internment of cremated remains at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation with family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Dodie was born in Des Moines on February 8, 1925 to Martin and Frances (Pierce) Fortson but was raised by her mother and step father, John Morrison. Dodie graduated from North High School and worked at a variety of jobs while also raising her family in Des Moines. After retirement in 1986, she moved to Bullhead City, AZ for seven years where she worked at Harrah's Casino before returning to the Des Moines area to be near her family.

Dodie enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, collecting angels and the color purple. She had two favorite dogs, Taco and Bambi. She liked to eat out and was a "regular" at the 5 & Diner in Pleasant Hill. She had an ability to make others laugh. She will be remembered as a woman who loved to care for and "mother" those around her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her five children, Earllynn "Lynn" (Dave) Cross, Myrna Whitlow, Earl "Butch" Harrison, Conrad (Debbie) Harrison and Candy (Melvin) Mitchell; eleven grandchildren, Shawn (Tom) Adams, Stacie (Chad) Buttz, James Whitlow, Christopher (Suen) Harrison, Quintin Harrison, Shannon (Doug) Campbell, Ashley Harrison, Mimie Howell, Leland (Jenny) Mitchell, Gail (Brian) Webb and Kelly (Jason) Merfeld; twenty great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Earl Harrison and Dick Hosmer; grandson, Justin Harrison and her half sister, Myrna Dickey.

Dodie loved her "kids" at The Shores. Her family wishes to thank the staff at The Shores for their care and friendship over the last 4 1/2 years.
