Born: June 12, 1918, Logan, IA

Parents: Roy and Florence (Ellison) Tripp; one of 6 children

Military: Entered military service May 22, 1941 at age 22; served for Company A, 803rd Army Aviation Engineer Battalion as sergeant and heavy equipment operator. Stationed at Clark Field, Philippine Islands. Later captured in Corregidor, sent on Bataan Death March, taken to Hell Ships, & transported to Bilibid & Cabanatuan prison camps where worked 3 1/2 years in coal mines of Japan. Liberated April 1946. Awards & Medals included: Silver Star, 2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star, American Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre with 2 Bronze Stars, Distinguished Unit Badge with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.

Marriage: September 14, 1946 married Marjorie Thomas. Married 62 years.

Occupation: Farmed until retirement in 1985. Also worked full-time at Vickers of Omaha for 25 years; retired in 1980. In 1986 moved with wife to Neola, Iowa & worked 15 years at Trippers Blue Moon Bar as bartender and cook.

Organizations: Lifetime member of Neola American Legion Post #330. VFW in Logan, IA. DAV and Eagles Club in Missouri Valley, IA. EXPOW in IA.

Predeceased by: Parents; son, Vern Tripp; brother, Addison Tripp; sister, Marjorie Parriott.

Survived by: Wife, Marjorie Tripp of Council Bluffs daughter, Linda Knight (husband Richard) of Omaha; son, Gary (wife Mary) of Crescent, IA; son, Craig (wife Patty) of Avoca, IA; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Audrey Myer of Manning, IA; brother, Glenn Tripp (wife Mary) of Arvada, CO; brother, Harold Tripp (wife Carolyn) of Macedonia, IA; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home.

Service: Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the mortuary, Rev. Dean Sparr officiating.

Interment: Bethel Cemetery, Logan, IA. Military rites by Neola American Legion Post #330. Lunch following at St. Patrick's Parish Hall in Neola.
