Obituary

Olaus Tungland

Funeral services for Olaus Tungland, who passed away at his home south of Garden City, Nov. 22, were held at Stavanger Lutheran church there Friday, Nov. 25 with the Rev. P. L. Mork, pastor officiating. Short services were held at the home at 1 o'clock. Burial was in Zion cemetery.

Olaus T. Tungland, son of Tjol and Trena Tungeland, was born in Jorpeland, Norway, Aug. 4, 1872. He was 77 years, 3 months and 13 days old at the time of his demise.

In May 1885 he immigrated to America with his parents, and lived the remainder of his life in Iowa.

Mr. Tungland was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. C. C. Holter in Roland.

Feb. 13, 1913 he was united in marriage to Serina Tungland at Jorpeland, Norway [sic]. To this union four children were born. Two children, a son Gordon, died in infancy, and a daughter, Esther (Mrs. Sig Tungland) passed away in 1945. Thelma (Mrs. Birch Fleming) and Kathrene (Mrs. Reuben Olson) survive. His wife preceded him in death in 1933.

Surviving him besides his two daughters are three brothers: Erick of Minneapolis, Adolph of Des Moines and Gus of Lakefield, Minn. Also surviving is a sister Anna Olson of Garden City; and 4 grandchildren.
