LAVONNE "BONNIE" MARIE WHITING
LaVonne "Bonnie" Marie Whiting, 90, of Hubbard, Iowa, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, located at 915 27th St., in Marion, where the family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Jerry Doellinger will officiate. An inurnment will follow the service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family. Bonnie was born on Nov. 2, 1930, in a farmhouse in rural Atkins, Iowa, the daughter of George and Amelia (Kerkman) Schlotterbeck. She was a graduate of Atkins High School. On Sept. 24, 1950, Bonnie was united in marriage to Karl Whiting. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion. She enjoyed reading, bowling, sewing clothing for her girls, and having large vegetable and flower gardens. Bonnie loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Bonnie is survived and lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Janet (David) Mannetter of Hubbard, Lorrie (Steven) Burkey of Springfield, Mo., and Peggy (Jon) Barnes of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; six granddaughters, Heidi (Matthew Butler) Mannetter of Des Moines, Iowa, Traci (Joshua) Nessa of Colo, Iowa, Katie (Eli) Zoske of St. Anthony, Iowa, Melanie (Joshua) Umbdenstock of Swisher, Iowa, Jill (Shane) Nestor of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jennifer (Adam) DuBois of Marion; 14 great-grandchildren, Mathilde Butler, Rebekah, Annabelle, and Caleb Nessa, Tavian, Lorianna and Coralee Zoske, Taylor, Megan, and Brooklynn Umbdenstock, Gavin and Teagan Nestor, and Jaylee and Addison DuBois; one brother-in-law, David (Mary) Whiting; one sister-in-law, Lois Schlotterbeck; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of nearly 70 years, Karl; two brothers, Delmar and Edward Schlotterbeck; and four sisters, Leona Annett, Eileen Johnson, Juanita Walter and Erma Caspers.
