Services for Dr. Harvey A. Nelson, 85, Friendship Haven, who died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at Trinity Regional Hospital, were held Saturday, Dec 7, 10 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Melvin Ammon officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Gunderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harvey Andrew Nelson was born July 21, 1911, in Klemme. He received a liberal arts degree from Morningside College and a graduate degree in Theology from Boston Theological Seminary in 1935. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Morningside College.

In 1935, he married Clara L. Bergmann in Danbury. He served as pastor of the following United Methodist Churches: Lakota-Ledyard, LuVerne-Livermore, Terril, Sibley, Whitfield in Sioux City, and Cedar Falls. He served as District Superintendent for 12 years in Sioux City, Fort Dodge and Waterloo districts. He retired in 1978 after serving the Methodist Church for 53 years. He then served as assistant minister at Trinty United Church in Fort Dodge.

With his wife, Clara, he shared in receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from Morningside College in 1982.

He was a member of the Rotary Club in Cedar Falls and later Fort Dodge, and served on the Friendship Haven Board for many years.

He is survived by his son, Dr. J. Byron Nelson of East Longmeadow, MA; a daughter, Jeanne Rozman of Jackson MS; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 1991; and one brother.
