Hazel J. Olson

Hazel Jeanette Olson, 91, of Story City, Iowa died Thursday, Nov. 23, 1995 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of heart failure and pneumonia. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel with Rev. Stephen Anenson and Rev. Ron Feuerhak officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Church Cemetery near Jewell.

Hazel Jeannette Hovland was born March 4, 1904 to Ole and Belle Hovland. On Feb. 18, 1925, she married Arnold F. Olson in Randall. She was a homemaker and farmed in the Stanhope and Jewell area until 1933. She was a lifetime resident of Story and Hamilton counties. She entered Bethany Manor Nursing Home in November of 1972. Hazel was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City.

Immediate survivors include two sons, William O. Olson of Ames and Lawrence A. Olson of Ellsworth, one daughter, Joyce McVicker of Apache Junction, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Ruth Christianson and four brothers, Martin, Embert, Selmer and Newman Hovland.
