James "Jim" Yates, 75, Webster City, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at Southfield Wellness Community. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. John Flaherty celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral Home with scripture service to be held at 7 p.m. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

James Everett Yates, son of Eldridge and Eunice (Passwaters) Yates, was born January 4, 1927 at Galt, Iowa. He received his education in the Williams Schools, graduating in 1945. Following his education he spent two years in the United States Army. Returning to Webster City, he was employed by Beam Manufacturing Co., and operated a service station with his brother (Andy) for several years. He also was employed by Standard Oil Fertilizer in Jewell, Cashway Lumber for about 10 years, Webster City Parks and Recreation Department, mowing Graceland Cemetery until 1998. Jim worked part time cleaning Webster City Medical Clinic. He had been residing at Southfield Wellness Community since Sept. 2001.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Wendell and Ardys Yates, Andrew and Charlene Yates, Larry (Joe) and Sandy Yates, Verona Yates, all of Webster City; sisters and brother-in-law, Maxine Fitchhorn, Janet and Kathy Yates, John and Larita Manship, all of Webster City and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marie, in infancy; brothers John and Dean and brother-in-law Russell Fitchhorn.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas, American Legion Post #191 and Webster City Moose Lodge #735.
