Willie Hartmann, 89, Blairsburg, died of congestive heart failure on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. His body was cremated and a private family gathering will take place at a later date. Becker Funeral Home in Jewell is in charge of arrangements.
Willie Henry Hartmann was born August 18, 1912 at David City, Neb. to Franke and Dorothy Anna Habecka Hartmann. He grew up in the Galva area, attending Hanover School. Willie was confirmed in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church in 1928. On August 13, 1938, he married Alzeda Martha Peters in Sioux City. He worked in road construction until retiring in 1979 with Hamilton County Road Maintenance. Willie and Alzeda lived in Clarinda for a time, returning to Hamilton County in 1994. Willie enjoyed fishing, woodworking and his family.
Survivors are his wife, Alzeda of Blairsburg, a son, Frederick Hartmann of Underwood; two daughters, Evelyn Dicks of Anthon; and Mary Culver of Nickerson, Neb., 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a sister.
