Geraldine "Jerry" Peterson, 83, a former Ellsworth resident, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with Rev. Mike Hershberger to officiate. Burial will follow at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church Wednesday until service time. A memorial fund has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, the Ellsworth Library and the Bethany Manor Foundation in Story City. Becker Funeral Home in Jewell is entrusted with arrangements.

Geraldine Ora Tucker was born September 4, 1917 in Pittsburg, Kansas, to J.R. and Hazel (Holden) Tucker. She was raised in Harrison, Arkansas and attended Arkansas Teachers College. On February 7, 1937 she was united in marriage to Vernon Peterson in Harrison, Arkansas and they moved to Ellsworth, Iowa. Jerry was active in the community. She was involved with the Girl Scouts, both locally and statewide. She served on many boards and was an avid supporter of the Ellsworth Library for over 50 years. Jerry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, where she was involved with many committees. She was a long time member of the P.E.O. and the Study Club. Her greatest interest was her painting, which brought her great enjoyment.

Jerry is survived by two daughters, Barbara Christenson of Hartley, Iowa and Margaret Holt of Huntington, New York; five grandchildren, Stuart Christenson of Iowa City, Brent Christenson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ryan Christenson of Ames, Barbara Holt of Leomenster, Massachusetts and Jennifer Pirigyi of San Diego, California; a great grandson, Gunnar Holt of Leomenster, Massachusetts; her sister, Virginia Earnst of Harrison, Arkansas and her brother, James Tucker of West Memphis, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; and her sister, Annabelle Jones in the fall of 2000.
