Stratford Courier, Stratford, Iowa, September 21, 1944

Funeral rites for W.F. Carlson were held in the local Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. Paul Anderson, in charge. Mrs. Roy Bergquist sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Abide With Me" was sung by Mrs. Oscar Borg and Mrs. Ralph Freese. The pastor used for his text words found in John 10:10: "That we might live through Him;" II Cor. 5:15, "That we might live for Him," and I Thessa 5:10, "That we might live with Him."

Following the service the remains were interred in the South Marion cemetery. The following were the pallbearers: J.R. Gustafson, B.E. Patterson, Roy Bergquist, L.R. Anderson, W.R. Holstrum, Oscar E. Anderson.

A host of friends extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved wife and children and other relatives.

William Frederick Carlson, son of Gust and Mary Carlson, was born on a farm in Boone county, Feb. 18, 1876. He died in the county hospital in Boone, Sept. 16, 1944, at the age of 68 years, 6 months, 29 days. A few days before his death he suffered a stroke of paralysis at his home and was at once taken to the hospital where his death occurred a few days later.

Born in this immediate community, this had been his home his entire life. He attended the rural schools and grew to manhood here and on Nov. 27, 1901, was united in marriage with Miss Hilda Norling. Two sons and three daughters were born of this union all of whom survive with the exception of a daughter Orlyn, who died in 1937. The bereaved wife and the following children survive: Frank of Des Moines, Merwin of Nevada, Dorothy (Mrs. Morse Banks), of Fillmore, Calif., and Lillian (Mrs. Claude Deo) of Tucson, Ariz.

His aged mother, Mrs. S.G. Carlson and the following brothers also survive: Charley E., Clarence L. and Elmer, all of Stratford, and Sam of Iowa Falls. Eleven grandchildren also survive as well as a host of friends.
