Funeral services for Esther Carlson, 83, Stanhope, were held Monday, Oct. 2, 1989 at the Christian Church, Stanhope. Rev. Richard Morris conducted the 10:30 a.m. service. Interment was held in the South Marion Cemetery, Stratford.

Mrs. Carlson passed away Friday morning, Sept. 29 at the Hamilton County Hospital, Webster City, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.

During the service the church choir sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" accompanied by Donna Wilcox. Honorary bearers were Deanne Brown, Lori Hanson, Ronda Nass, Jolene Trost. Bearers were David Carlson, Dennis Carlson, Douglas Carlson, Michael Carlson, Randy Carlson, Scott Carlson, Steven Carlson, Tom Carlson.

Esther Glee Dick, was born on Friday, Dec. 15, 1905 on a farm near Stanhope. Her parents were L.Q. and Mabel (Kent) Dick. Esther attended the rural schools in the Stanhope area. Esther was a graduate of Stanhope High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. Esther taught in a rural school east of Stanhope.

On Sunday, Aug. 12, 1928 Esther married Ransom D. Carlson at Stanhope. The couple farmed east of Stanhope for 50 years. They retired and moved to Stanhope in 1978. Esther had resided at the Stratford Care Center since January of 1986. Mr. Carlson passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 1989.

Esther was a member of the Christian Church, Stanhope; was a member of the Stanhope Senior Citizens and was a long time member of Stanhope Women's Club.

Survivors include sons, Francis Carlson and Ronald Carlson, both of Stanhope; Garwin Carlson, Clamath Falls, Or; Keith Carlson of Stratford; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, brother, Mervyn Dick, Stratford; sisters, Velma Anderson, Webster City; Cleo Westrum of Stratford.
