BOY, 17, SHOT; BLEEDS TO DEATH

Ellis Swenson, of Ellsworth, Accidently Shot, Bleeds to Death in Hospital

SHOOTING PIGEONS

Accident Happened on the Sam Jacobson Farm Near Story City

STORY CITY, Iowa, July 8, (Special) - Ellis Swenson, 17, of Ellsworth, bled to death in the hospital here early this morning, following a shooting accident yesterday at the Sam Jacobson farm northeast of Story City.

Ellis was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Swenson. He had gone to the Sam Jacobson farm where he and Silas Jacobson, a young man about his own age, planned to shoot pigeons.

Silas was carrying the gun, a 12-gauge shotgun, cocked ready for a shot. Ellis, starting to pass in front of him, grasped the barrel of the gun to lower it when it exploded. The full charge struck him in the hip.

The young man was rushed to the hospital where every attention was given him. The wound, however, was deep and the shot had torn the flesh so badly that physicians could not stop the bleeding. The young man died about 1:15 o'clock this morning.

He is survived by his parents and five brothers and sisters. No funeral arrangements have been made.

[he is buried at Mamrelund Cemetery and headstone reads Alvis - he was the son of Oscar & Lena Swenson]
