MRS. SOPHIA CARLSON

Services for Mrs. Sophia Carlson were held Monday, June 20, at the First Baptist Church at Stratford with the Rev. R.I. Thompson of Bellwood, Ill., officiating. Mrs. Norman Erickson, organist, accompanied by Mrs. Robert Carlson who sang "My Savior First Of All" and "Over the Sunset Mountain."

Pallbearers were Reuben Johnson, Leonard Angstrom, Carl Schmidt, Claire Schmidt, Marvin Westrum and Charles Good. Interment was made in the South Marion Cemetery near Stratford.

Sophia Cecelia Carlson, daughter of Peter W. and Minnie [Mindemann] Siemsen, was born in Hamilton County, Iowa on July 7, 1887 and died at Mac's Nursing Home in Boone on June 17, 1966 at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 10 days, following a lingering illness.

She was baptized Sept. 4, 1887 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Boone County. She attended school in Marion Township, Hamilton County. She was duly instructed in the Word of God and was confirmed March 31, 1901 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Harrison Township, Boone County.

On March 10, 1909 she was united in marriage to Elmer Carlson and they farmed for many years in Hamilton County and in 1938 moved to Stratford. Her husband preceded her in death in 1951. In later years she moved to Stanhope and Mrs. Carlson became a member of the First Baptist Church at Stanhope where she was active in Ladies Aid and Philathea Class. She was always willing to serve where needed and will be remembered as a kind and gracious woman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother who died in infancy; her husband; two brothers, Henry and George. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Anna Tietjen of Boone; a brother, August Siemsen of Stanhope; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Anna Siemsen of Boone and Mrs. Carrie Siemsen of California; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
