Merle Wing, 80, of Webster City, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Van Diest Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Mark Eichler officiating. Burial at Graceland Cemetery will be at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Merle Clarence Wing, the son of Clarence and Helen Beerman Wing was born on July 13, 1937 in Stanhope. He graduated from Stanhope Schools in 1956. Merle served in the Iowa Air National Guard from 1958 to 1964. He married Janice Short on May 29, 1959 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City. Merle was a mechanic at Buell Auto and Christenson Motors. He worked for Merle Nagel at Merle’s Motor Service and purchased the business in 1982. He was the owner until his retirement in 2007.

Survivors include his daughter, Cindy (Jim) Mitchell of Webster City; sister-in-law, Judy (Phillip) Frakes of Sioux City; nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends that thought of him as “Dad” or “Grandpa”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice in 2009; sister-in-law, Donna Hoversten.

Merle was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was a friend of the Hamilton County Fair, volunteering numerous hours of his time. He loved camping, especially at the Iowa State Fair for the last 35 years. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and riding around on his scooter with his granddog, Checker. Merle will be missed by many as he was a friend to everyone he met.
