Edna Fern (Chantrill) Denekas was born November 6, 1933 in Webster City to Arthur and Lucille (Farley) Chantrill. She was raised just east of Blairsburg and attended Blairsburg schools, graduating in 1948.

On December 3, 1950 she was united in marriage to Lester Raymond Denekas. They farmed east of Kamrar for many years, raising hogs and crop farming. Edna was a homemaker and enjoyed working hand in hand with Lester on the farm. They were rarely seen apart. To this union were born two children, Ronald Lester Denekas of Kamrar and Mary Ann (Denekas) Marreel of Osage.

Edna was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kamrar. She served many roles in the church including Sunday school and Bible school teacher, circle member, serving in the kitchen, and decorating the bulletin board monthly. She also helped Lester with his Clerk of Session duties.

Edna loved to travel. Her love for travel started early in life, as she enjoyed visiting her older sisters. Her favorite travel companion was her daughter, Mary Ann. They took trips all over the world including Europe, Hawaii, Disney World, and many cruises.

Edna lived on the home place in a house next to her son Ron. The house she lived in was built by her husband, Lester. The last 14 months Edna spent her life under the excellent care of the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage, the same town her daughter Mary Ann lives in. The last two days she was under hospice care with the St. Croix Hospice taking care of her and her family while at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Edna’s two grandchildren, Christy Wahl and Bryan Denekas were able to be by her side and say their farewell’s the day she had taken ill. Christy travelled from Ames and Bryan was on a business trip to Dallas, Texas and flew to Minneapolis and then drove to Osage. Edna was taken home to our Lord to be with her husband Lester at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 7 with loving children Ron and Mary Ann by her side.

Edna is survived by her children Ronald and Mary Ann (John) Marreel, two grandchildren Christy Lynn (Bradley) Wahl of Ames and Bryan Joel (Christina) Denekas of Kamrar. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren Keaton, Leyton, and Morgan Wahl of Ames and Addison and Paul Denekas of Kamrar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, parents Arthur and Lucille Chantrill, and two sisters Evelyn Knudson and Lorene Inglis.
