Lyle Caruth, age 78, of 1809 Carroll Street, died May 23, 2014 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.

His body has been cremated and a graveside service will be Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Boone Memorial Gardens.

Lyle Leonard Caruth was born in Blairsburg, Iowa on November 26, 1935, the son of Leonard and Evelyn (Coons) Caruth.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School in Ellsworth.

On August 4, 1957 Lyle married Barbara Ann Ryan in Des Moines.

From 1957 to November of 1997, Lyle worked as an inspector/Tech 2 for the Iowa Department of Transportation in the road construction department.

He was a former member of the Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed gardening and having coffee with the Condon Gas Station Bunch and the Saturday morning breakfast group.

Lyle also enjoyed family lunches at the gazebo at the Eastern Star Home.

His absolute greatest joy and love of his life were his grandchildren and great grandchildren who only knew him as Grandpa B.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne and LaVerne Caruth and an infant brother Robert Caruth, and a sister Jeanie Hovick and an infant sister Catherine.

Lyle is survived by his wife Barbara of Boone; a son Vernon Caruth and wife Vicki of Stratford; a daughter Tamra Fitzgerald and husband Mike of Boone; six grandchilren: Jason Fitzgerald, Jeff (Shannon) Fitzgerald, Jessica (Dennis) Mathies, Phil (Becky) Phipps, Jr., Bill (Shad) Phipps and Jenna (Owen) Hunter; 10 great grandchildren: Hailey and Nathan Fitzgerald, Mya and Candance Mathies, Chelsea Phipps, Dustin and Mason Phipps, and Brianna, Hailey and Emma Hunter; and two great great grandchildren Dawson and Raylyn Phipps.

Also surviving are three brothers Wendell Caruth and wife Dee, and Gary Caruth and wife Barb, all of Webster City, and Ed Caruth and wife Bonnie of Gilbert; two sisters Donna Kezar and husband Roger of Bradenton, Florida and Rosalee Ballantine of Story City; brothers-in-law Jim Ryan and wife Karen, and Cleo Carroll, all of Boone; sisters-in-law Doris Caruth of Stratford, Lucy Anderson and husband Don of Madrid, Mary Luna and husband Mateo of Belen, New Mexico and Connie Perusich and husband John of Buffalo, New York; and many nieces and nephews.

In memory of Lyle, memorials may be directed to his family.
