Dorothy Marie Larson, daughter of Harvey and Bertha Larson, was born in Minneapolis, MN, May 30, 1925. When her father bought a farm in rural Alden, MN, she rode in a Model A car with friends to Alden High School where she graduated. She traced her character to her upbringing on the farm and the friendships she developed in Alden.

Next, she took a job as an executive secretary with The Interstate Power Company in Albert Lea, MN. It was at her neighbor’s apartment, Ruth Holmquest’s, that Dorothy met and fell in love with Ruth’s son, John R. Holmquest. They were very happily married for over 50 years. Thereafter John and Dorothy became life-long residents of Webster City and were life-time members of Trinity Lutheran Church.

In 1998, after John Holmquest’s passing, she married Ross Nissen of Blairsburg, IA. Ross resides at Southfield Wellness Community.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Jack Holmquest of Watertown, SD and Ric Holmquest of Cedar Rapids, IA; and by her daughter, Anne Holmquest of Sioux Falls, SD. She is also survived by two grandchildren, John Vance Holmquest of Sioux Falls and Katherine Ruth Holmquest of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her parents.

Dorothy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 60 years and loved her Naomi Circle group. She spent her life serving others. She was a person of incredible faith. She lived her life according to her favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 41, v.10: “So do not fear, I am with you; Do not be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you and help you with my righteous right hand (NIV).”
