Darwin Hill, 86 of Stanhope, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Suzie Moore officiating. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the services. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Darwin Wayne Hill was born November 28, 1931 on a farm west of Stanhope, the son of Leonard and Wilma Quam Hill. He joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and served in the Korean War. On his 19th birthday he was captured and spent 33 months as a POW. He married Deloris (Dee) Crosby on February 28, 1954 in Webster City. Darwin farmed until his retirement and was a truck driver with several different companies.

Darwin is survived by his wife Deloris of Stanhope; children, Ronald (Melinda) Hill of Nevada, Craig (Patty) Hill of Webster City and DeAnn (Don) Pelz of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Lanny (Joyce) Hill of Pomeroy; sister, Andrea (Charles) Hafeli of IL and many extended family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Darwin enjoyed fishing, camping and spending his winters in Arizona with Dee.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Stanhope Parrish in memory of Darwin.
