Curtis E. Draves, 86, of Webster City and formerly of Clarion, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City.
Funeral services for Curtis Draves will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Holmes Lutheran Church, 2139 Hancock Avenue, Clarion with Pastor Rich Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Dows.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at Holmes Lutheran Church on Saturday beginning at 9:30 AM.

Curtis Eugene Draves was born September 1, 1931 to Carl and Ruth (Evans) Draves in rural Dows, Iowa. He attended country schools in the Dows area.

Curtis was united in marriage to Dorothy Hanson on April 21, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, three children were born.

The couple made their home south of Webster City, where they began farming in 1952. In 1957, they moved the family to a farm north of Holmes, then in 1962, to a farm south west of Clarion, where they resided until 2000, when they relocated to Webster City. Curtis continued to farm until 2007, but loved to spend time around the farm, riding in the combine during harvest two weeks ago.

Farming was both Curtis’ livelihood and hobby. He continued to make watching Market-to-Market part of his weekly route. He loved nature shows and being outdoors in nature. In earlier years, he milked cows, raised hogs, chickens, ducks and sheep in addition to grain farming.

Dorothy worked the night shift, so Curtis made sure the children were up and fed before going to school. In later years, Curtis and Dorothy enjoyed dancing and traveling, beginning with a family vacation to the west coast in 1969. The couple later traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, New York and many other destinations.
Curtis and Dorothy attended Holmes Lutheran Church with the family.

Curtis is survived by children Verla (Larry) Thul of Thor, Vicky (Terry) Arne of Eagle Grove and Larry (Gale) Draves of Clarion; grandchildren Jean Sobek of Forest City, Ronda (Bob) Schaffer of Clarion, Scott Thul of Eagle Grove, Lori Fouarge of Thor, Marcia (Travis) Greco of Ankeny, and Troy Arne of Eagle Grove; great-grandchildren Briar (Jade) Draves, Michael Schaffer, Paris Madden, Brock Sobek, Brenna Madden, Autumn Madden, Shanna Thul, Cole Fouarge, Bailey Sobek, Zander Madden, Reed Greco, Noah Thul, Matthew Thul and Rosie Thul; great-great granddaughter Elena Draves; sister Kathryn (Lester) Hanson of Story City, brother Russell (Lill) Draves of Carroll; along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy in 2014, and brother Floyd Draves and Floyd’s wife Wanda.

He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend to all who met him. He had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
