Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Wednesday, September 12, 1928

Mrs. Jorgine Flygstad was born in Tananger, Norway, Feb. 18, 1848 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Andrew E. Jacobson, Sept. 4, 1928 at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 16 days.

She was married to Daniel Flygstad in 1869. To this union were born fifteen children, four of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Flygstad was left a widow 25 years ago. She emigrated to America in the spring of 1872, coming to Lee county, Illinois. Later she moved near Roland and Story City, Iowa, coming to Hamilton county in 1885 and residing on a farm near Jewell. The last few years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Christopherson.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Coming to Iowa, she joined the Roland Lutheran church and the last few years she had attended the Washington Lutheran church of Duncombe, Iowa.

A short funeral service conducted by the Rev. R.C. Storsteen, of Duncombe, was held at the Andrew E. Jacobson home, south of Duncombe, followed by a service at Bethesda Lutheran church at Jewell. At that place Rev. Storsteen was assisted by the Rev. Peder Nordsletten, of Jewell. Burial was made in the Jewell cemetery.

Mrs. Flygstad is survived by three sons, Oscar and Bankie Flygstad, of Jewell, and Hans Flygstad, of Barron, Wis., and eight daughters, Mrs. Tom Flygstad and Mrs. Lars Bjelland, of Barron, Wis.; Mrs. George S. Johnson and Mrs. August Kleaveland, of Story City; Mrs. M.A. Jones, of Jewell; Mrs. Andrew E. Jacobson and Mrs. Arthur Christopherson, of Duncombe, and Mrs. S.H. Clausen, of San Bernardino, Calif. Then there are 36 grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Also two brothers living in Norway.
