Loretta M. Garreau, 87, daughter of Paul & Catherine (Kimmen) Veasman, was born June 11, 1924 in Earling, Iowa. She passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Guthrie County Hospital, Guthrie Center, Iowa.

Loretta spent her school days in and around Churdan, Iowa. When she was 11, her mother died, leaving her the oldest and in charge of her 4 sisters and baby brother. She graduated from Churdan High School in 1942.

On August 24, 1943, she married Leon Garreau in Churdan. In 1949, they moved the family from a farm near Casey to Guthrie Center. Loretta worked at the Randolph Egg Plant in the mid 50's, then worked as a janitor at the Guthrie County High School in the early 60's and then was a cook at the New Homestead in the 70's. Most of Loretta's life was taking care of others. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, traveling, and keeping track of numerous relatives.

Loretta was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors, the Guthrie Center Activity Center, and Garden Club.

She is survived by her children, Lyle (Pat) Garreau of Linn, MO; Lois Garwood of DeSoto, IA; LLoyd (Jody) Garreau of St. Charles, MO; Leo (Jackie) Garreau of Ames, IA; and Lynn (Diane) Garreau of Grand Rapids, MI. Nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Sisters, Rita Kimm and Viola Heins. Brother, Paul Veasman. Half-sisters, Mildred, Clara, Maxine, Virginia, Donna, and Patricia. Half-brothers, Mike, John, and Larry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon "Frenchy" in 2009, grandson Chad, sisters Lucille, Carolyn, Julia, and Dorothy, and half-sisters, Darlene and Mary.

Visitation: 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Twigg Funeral Home - Guthrie 506 Prairie Street Guthrie Center Iowa 50115 (map/driving directions) Family will be present from 6-8 PM with a Vigil Service at 7:30 PM.

Service: 10:00 am to 10:45 am on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church Guthrie Center Iowa 50115. Resurrection Cemetery, rural Guthrie Center Iowa 50115
