Final rites for Ray E. Smith, 81, were held from the Starling Funeral Home in Bayard Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev Alfred E Rau, Pastor of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church officiated.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, Mr. Smith was born in Bayard May 24, 1892, and he died December 8, 1973, at the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids where he had been a resident for several years.
Mr. Smith was a well known Bayard businessman having managed the Farmers Cooperative Elevator for many years. Following his retirement, the family moved to Indianola and later he moved back to Bayard. He had been in failing health and complications of old age were listed as the cause of death.
He was married to Ermil Fournier of Bayard and they were parents of one daughter, Ann (Mrs. Max) Poole of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Mrs. Smith preceded him in death but his daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren survive. They are Mark and Suzon Belden, both of Eau Claire. A brother William Smith of South Dakota also survives.
Mrs. Beth Jordan served as pianist and she was joined by Lillian Ford in singing two hymns.
The casket was carried by Fred Rosenbladt, Arden Patterson, Dave Poole, Leonard Siedhoff, Everett Cornish and Donald Brown. Interment was made in the Highland Cemetery.
