A Rosary was held Sunday night at the Starling Funeral Home and the Mass of the Resurrection was prayed Monday at 10 am at the St. Patrick's Catholic church honoring Quin O'Brien who died December 5 in Chicago. Interment was made in the Willow Township Cemetery.
Mr. O'Brien was a native of Bayard and had lived in Chicago since early in in the 1920s. He had suffered from a heart condition for several years and he died in Chicago following several days of hospitalization.
Son of William and Elizabeth O'Brien he was born in Bayard October 29, 1898. After graduating from the Bayard high school in 1917, Mr. O'Brien spent one year at the University of Wisconsin and two years at the University of Iowa. Following that he went to Chicago and became associated with Shoemacher and Company, an importer of fabrics and tapestries. He spent his entire business life with this company until his retirement in 1965.
Quin O'Brien never married but he aided his mother until her death. Since he was the oldest of three sons he assumed family responsibilities following his father's early death.
He is survived by a brother, William "Darb" O'Brien of Des Moines and two nieces and one nephew. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack.
Fr Sam Cordaro officiated at the Mass and Joseph P Ewing served as organist. The casket was carried by Edward Lyons, Joe Pulver, Matthew Murrane, James H Murrane, John Horan and James Hagan.
