Final rites were held for Mrs. Mabel M. Garland Monday at 10 am from the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry. The pastor, Rev Maurice Schulte, officiated at the Mass in her honor. Mrs. Garland died Feb 1 at the Perry Manor.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Lyons, Mrs. Garland was born at Bayard August 3, 1887, and was 85 years old at the time of her death.
She was married to L F Garland and they operated the elevator in Jamaica for many years, later they moved to Waukee where the family continued in the grain business. Mr. Garland died in 1972 and Mrs. Garland then moved to Perry.
Surviving are a son, Francis E. Garland of Waukee; two daughters, Janice Wiltgen of Waukee, and Charlene Ash of Radnor, Pa, and 17 grandchildren.
Also surviving is her brother, Tom Lyons of Bayard, and her sister, Linda Wilson of Guthrie Center, and many nieces and nephews.
Interment was made in the Violet Hill Cemetery near Perry. She was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Church in Des Moines.
