Funeral servicers for Francis A "Berry" Free were held Wednesday at 11 am from the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. The Pastor, Rev Alfred E. Rau, officiated and interment was made in the Richland Cemetery at Bagley.
Music for the services for he area retired farmer was furnished by Miss Lula Garnes at the organ and Sam and Corrine Cretsinger who sang two numbers. The casket was carried by Joe Gallagher Ed Flaherty, Alvin Mikkelsen, Lester Garnes, Paul Ford and Art Snyder.
Francis Asbury, son of Frank and Lena Lysinger Free, was born March 16, 1907, near Rippey. He attended the rural schools near his home and later the Rippey Consolidated School. Berry started to work in coal mines near Rippey in 1917 and due to failing health had to quit the mines in 1934. He was united in marriage with Mary Allen on June 20, 1934.
They farmed north of Jefferson for five years then moved to a farm near Jamaica and later farmed near Bayard and Glidden until moving to a farm east of Coon Rapids in 1964. Due to poor health for many years he retired from active farming in 1964 and in 1970 moved into Coon Rapids.
He passed away at the Green County Medical Center Sunday evening, August 7, 1977, at the age of 70 years four months and 21 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Glenn and Jerome.
He is survived by his wife, Mary and by sons, Francis of Coon Rapids, Raymond of Glidden and Allen of Rhodes; eight grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Alma Heck and Mrs. Edna White of Perry, Evelyn (Mrs. Jerry Wolf of Stuart, and Mabel (Mrs. Ed) Flander of What Cheer, and one brother Myron, of Des Moines.
