Death came to Mary Ellen ( Mrs. Grant) Wailes Monday in the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. She had been a patient there in August for an operation and reentered the hospital only last week.
Final rites for Mrs. Wailes were held Wednesday from the Starling Funeral Home with Rev Steven Wainwright, pastor of the Bayard United Methodist Church officiating. Miss Lula Garnes served as organist and the casket was carried by Jim, Matt and Joseph Murrane, Tom Vaux, Howard Smith and Walter Ebersole. Interment was made in the Highland Cemetery.
A native of Moorhead, Mary Ellen was the daughter of Venice Bassett Bardner and Richard Gardner. In November of 1939 she was married to Grant Wailes of Bayard.
Because of ill health, in 1958 Mary Ellen became a resident of state and county care facilities were she remained until her death. She spent the last seven years as a resident of the Cass County Health Facility near Atlantic.
Mary Ellen leaves to regret her passing friends at the Care Center, a sister, Mrs. Melvin (Verna) Cox of rural Moorhead, two nieces in Omaha, Nebr, and her husband, Grant Wailes, of Bayard.
