"William Elijah Moore was born at Norris, Fulton county, Ill., Feb. 10, 1857 and passed from this life at his home in Bagley, Iowa, April 1, 1923, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 21 days. When 15 years of age he moved to Livingston county, Ill., and in 1882 he came to Guthrie county, Iowa, where he lived the rest of his life. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Laura J. Shank, also of this county. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls. They are Chas. P. of Jefferson, Iowa, Oscar L. of Canada, Ada Peters of Bagley, Clara and Ralph at home and two others, who died in infancy. Mr. Moore has farmed in Guthrie county all his life until six years ago, when he retired and moved to Bagley. He took an active part in the affairs of the community, dealing justly with all with whom he came in contact. He united with the Christian church and has endeavored to live the life of a Christian as Christ would have him live. He leaves to mourn his loss a loving and sympathetic wife, five children, four brothers, eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Saum. The church was filled with those who gathered to show respect for the dead and sympathy for the bereaved. The floral tributes were beautiful. Interment was made at Richland cemetery. The bereaved ones have the deepest sympathy of a host of friends. Out-of-town relatives present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Moore, (he a brother of the deceased), Mr. and Mrs. Dee Moore and Mrs. C. W. Scofield, all of Norfolk, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Johnson of Rockwell City, Iowa; R. J. Shank of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Duncan of Perry, Iowa, and Paul C. Peterman of Cedar Rapids." (The Bagley Gazette, Bagley, Iowa, Thursday, April 5, 1923, pg. 1, col. 1)
