Lessie Belle Stiles, daughter of Frank and Rebecca Ellen Tremaine Pulver, was born March 21, 1892, in Coon Rapids. She passed away on December 7, 1977, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Moline, Ill. She was 85 years old.
Lessie graduated from Bayard high school in 1911 and was a rural school teacher for three years.
In January, 1914, she married Lloyd Earl Stiles and they had one daughter, June Ellen. They farmed near Bayard for 47 years and then moved to town, retiring in 1960.
When Lessie was a young girl she was baptized in the Christian Church and enjoyed serving in many capacities. She was president of Ladies Aid Society and the Missionary Society. She taught children and adult Bible for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Federated Women's Club and the Farm Bureau. She was an avid reader and her best loved and most enjoyed book was the bible.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Harry, and one sister, Edith Gaunt.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, June and Jerry Hall; two grandchildren Mary Brahm and her husband, Dale of Moline, Ill, and Sue Hall of East Moline, Ill; two great grandchildren, Becky Brahm and Brian Brahm of Moline. Also two sister, Mrs. Ella Freesh and Bayard and Mrs. Marvel Stimson of Ellensburg, Wash. and a brother, Clifford Pulver of Bayard.
All of these, along with a host of relatives and friends mourn her passing.
Funeral services were held December 9, at 1:30 p.m. from the Bayard Church of Christ with LeRoy Guernsey and Gerald Raymond serving as ministers. Colleen Poole was pianist and accompanied Patricia Schwartz when she sang two hymns. The casket was carried by Paul Hay, Jr. Fred Christensen, Duane Johnson, Dave Poole, Tom Vaux and Ray Schwartz. Interment was made in the Highland Cemetery.
