A severe heart attack suffered at his home northwest of Bayard early Monday morning claimed the life of Wilfred M. Slaybaugh. He had been hospitalized from a heart attack April 7 until May 10.
A native of Bayard and a longtime farmer in the community, Mr. Slaybaugh had been a community leader throughout his 70 years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p. m. from the United Methodist Church in Bayard with the pastor, Rev. A. Keith Hauser, officiating. Miss Lula Garnes was organist and the casket was carried by Paul Slaybaugh, Ronald and Clifford Albright and Bob, Bud and Paul McCool. Interment was made in the Highland cemetery.
Wilfred Merle Slaybaugh son of George and Alice. (McCool) Slaybaugh was born in Highland township, Guthrie County, on December 3, 1906. He passed away at his home near Bayard early Mary 16, 1977.
He was united in marriage to Thelma Foresman on October 4, 1928. They had three children, Keith Slaybaugh of Nevada; Mrs. Bruce (Deloris) Berner of New Castle, Colorado, and Donna Slaybaugh of Des Moines.
He lived and farmed near Bayard most of his life.
He served on the Bayard school board for four years and was on the board of the Farmers Coop Elevator for several years. He was a member and past president of the Lions Club. Her was a member of the Bayard Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, son, two daughters and six grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Lula Albright of Jefferson, one brother, John Slaybaugh of Stuart and many relatives and friends.
