Rev Fr Paul Edward Caraher, TOR of Geddes, S D, passed away suddenly at St Ann's rectory, Saturday, March 19.
Funeral mass was con-celebrated by 21 priests, Tuesday a.m. at 11 o'clock.
Fr Paul was the son of Michael Caraher and Catherine McDonald Caraher. He was born on October 15, 1896, at Bayard.
Fr attended school at the Divine Word Seminary, Techny, Ill, and later at Trinity College, Sioux City.
After joining the Franciscan Order, Father studied for the priesthood at Rome, Italy, where he was ordained March 15, 1924, at St. John Lateran Basilica. After completing his PHD degree at the Gregorian University in Rome, he served as Rector at Trinity College at Loretto, PA.
Among other responsibilities Father served as Rector of the Major Seminary of Mt. Assissi Loretto, pa; Professor of Theology; Treasurer of the Franciscan Province and Provential Advisor Fr Caraher also spent many years as pastor of parishes at Woonsacket and Geddes, S D.
Fr was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Brother Jerome OCSO, Joseph, Ed, John and Tom and his sisters, Sr Mary Ursula, RSM, and SR Mary Magdalene RSM.
He is survived by a brother, Peter of Carroll and several nieces and nephews, a host of friends and fellow religious, who always appreciated his many abilities and warm sense of humor.
Relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. P F Caraher, Dr Paul Caraher and son, Paul 111, of Nashville, Tenn, (both namesakes of Fr Paul), and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Caraher, and Theresa Ann Bohnenkamp and son, Tommy of Remsen.
